This series intends to provide teams with a potential to develop, venues where they can play in a highly competitive environment. It will be an excellent series to play against equals and continue to hone their skills. It is intended that this Tier 2 Competition series provides these teams an all-important stepping stone to the Major Series of events which are currently part of the regular Curling Champions Tour. Events with prize money between minimum 8’000 and max 20’000 Swiss franc total purse can qualify as a CCT Challenger Series event. Events with minimum 15 men’s or 12 Women’s teams, group play or triple-knockout also qualify for World Team Ranking Order of Merit Points
Tour Executive Director Armin Harder said “this has been in discussion in the making for a while now” “Many teams would like to play in the big events but have trouble working their way up the points ladder enough to qualify for them. ” The new “Challenger Series” will provide this path. It also enables new developing events a possibility to get started, and join the Tour, provides the opportunity to develop a sponsor base without needing the big prize money of the Major events.
Champions Tour is pleased to Announce that The Thompson Curling Challenge taking place in Urdorf Switzerland with a total purse of 8’800 Sfr will be the first event on this Series taking place from the 18-20 Oct 2013. Champions Tour Management looks to quickly have a number of events in place to provide this important level of competition for developing teams.
